Wood Types:

Maple (acer saccharum) sapwood color ranges from nearly white, to an off-white cream color, sometimes with a reddish or golden hue. The heartwood tends to be a darker reddish brown. Birds Eye Maple is so named because the figure resembles small bird's eyes.  There is also curly maple which is simply a description of a figure in the grain that brings another depth of luster. This wood is found mostly in Canada and North Eastern USA.

 

Zebrawood (microberlinia brazzavillensis) has a light golden yellow heartwood with streaks of dark brown to black. The color veins can be either wide or thin just like a Zebra. This wood is found in Africa.

 

Leopardwood (roupala montana) is a medium to dark reddish-brown with grey or light brown rays, which resemble the spots on a leopard. The Leopard spots range in size and luster. This wood is found mostly in Central and Northern South America.

 

Bubinga (guibourtia spp.) also known as African rosewood, is a beautiful dense hardwood with a rose-colored background and darker purple striping. This wood is found in Africa.

 

Walnut (juglans nigra) heartwood can range from a lighter pale brown to a dark chocolate brown with darker brown streaks. Color can even have a grey, purple, or reddish cast. This wood is found mostly in Canada and USA.

 

African Mahogany (khaya senegalensis) is of the Khaya genus. The heartwood is a light pink-brown that darkens when cut to a reddish-brown. Some examples can even have an iridescent luster that brings a unique depth to pieces. This wood is found mostly in Eastern and Western Africa.

 

Bloodwood (brosimum paraense) or "cardinal wood" is a medium to hard wood with red to crimson color to a bright, vivid red color and tight straight interlocking grain. This wood is found mostly in South America.

 

Paduak (pterocarpus soyauxii) is a medium to hard wood. Color can vary, ranging from a pale pinkish orange to a deep brownish red. This wood is found mostly in Central and tropical West Africa.

 

Ebony Black and White (diospyros embryopteris) is an exotic wood with color that will vary, usually uniformly black with light-colored bands, pale to medium brown zones, or with marked contrast between almost white and black wood. This wood is found mostly in Southeast Asia and Laos.

 

Wenge (millettia laurentii) is very dark brown in color with very close, straight grain and fine black veins. This wood is found mostly in Central and West Africa.
